Short version: document your own space, use your own photographs, report real numbers, and do not use this site to sell things.

Builds

Document a space you own or built

A setup profile should describe a garage, workshop or hobby space that is yours, or one you personally built or renovated for someone else with their agreement. Posting a space you found online is not allowed, and it is the fastest way to have an account removed.

Use your own photographs

Every upload requires you to confirm you took the photograph or have the owner’s explicit permission to publish it here. Manufacturer photography, images lifted from listings, and pictures pulled from other people’s posts are all removed on sight.

Report real numbers

An honest “about $4,000, though I lost some receipts” is far more useful than a precise figure you made up. Where you are estimating, mark the line as an estimate — there is a field for exactly that.

Keep dimensions honest

Measure, or say it is approximate in your write-up. Dimensions are the backbone of search here; a wrong number wastes the time of everyone who filters on it.

Photographs and privacy

Before uploading, look at the whole frame, not just the subject:

  • Licence plates, house numbers, street signs and mail.
  • Alarm panels, keypads, safes, and shots that show where valuables live.
  • Views through windows and doorways that identify the property.
  • Other people who have not agreed to appear.

We strip GPS metadata from every upload automatically, but we cannot read what is in the picture. That part is yours.

There is no field for a street address anywhere on this site. Do not put one in a description, a caption or a question.

Questions and replies

  • Questions must be about the build they are posted on.
  • No contact details — yours or anyone else’s — in public text.
  • No sales pitches, service offers, or lead generation.
  • Disagree with a decision if you like; be civil about it.
  • Posting is rate-limited. If you are hitting the limit, you are posting too much.

Build owners can hide any question on their own build, and can turn questions off entirely for all their builds from account settings.

Products

  • Add products because you used them, not because you want to promote them.
  • Do not add your own affiliate or referral links. Merchant links are plain product pages.
  • Honest criticism is welcome and useful. “Would not buy again” is a valid note.
  • Do not add a product you have not personally used in the build you are attaching it to.

Trade and business accounts

Builders, cabinet installers, flooring companies and other trades are genuinely welcome to document work they did — that is exactly the kind of content this site is for. The rules are the same as for everyone else: real photographs, real numbers, no pitch in the write-up, and no contact details in public text. A setup profile is not an advert.

What gets removed

  • Content that is not yours.
  • Anything that exposes a residential address or someone’s security arrangements.
  • Fabricated builds, fabricated costs, or AI-generated imagery presented as a real space.
  • Spam, advertising and lead generation.
  • Harassment and abuse.
  • Specific advice presented as authoritative on structural, electrical, gas or fire-safety work.

That last one deserves an explanation: describing what you did and what it cost is the whole point of the site. Telling someone else what gauge wire to run for their subpanel is not something a setup profile should be doing. Describe your project; leave the specification to whoever is licensed for it.

Reporting and moderation

Every build, photograph, product and question has a report control. Reports go to a moderation queue with the reporting account attached, and are rate-limited to stop the tool being used as harassment.

Moderators can hide a question, reject a photograph or reject a build. A rejection cannot be reversed by the owner — if you think a decision is wrong, get in touch rather than reposting.

We are a small team and moderation is not instantaneous. Anything involving a privacy exposure is handled first.

Your content stays yours

You keep the rights to everything you post. You can unpublish or delete a build at any time from its editor, which removes it from the public site and deletes its photographs from our storage. See the terms for the licence you grant us to display it while it is published.

We would like to count visits with Google Analytics to see which pages get used. It is not needed to browse or publish, and we will not ask again either way. What we collect
